“Now what you hear is not a test, I’m rocking to the beat”
“Walk this way, talk this way”
“Live from Bedford Stuyvesant, the livest one”
“Up jumps da boogie, da boogie jumps me”
Hip-Hop culture made its initial impact in the basements of urban youth circa the summer of 1979. Rapper’s Delight brought this new sound to the mainstream, and ever since then, innovative rap collaborations have created fresh sounds that have taken the genre in exciting, unpredictable directions. The Hip-Hop duo Physha P is ready to take their place among Sugar Hill Gang, Run DMC, Notorious B.I.G. and Diddy, and groundbreakers Missy Elliott and Timbaland. With earnestness and confident style, it is their mission to create “NEXT Level Hip-Hop.”
Physha P is an alternative/Hip-Hop group with a sound as eclectic as their unusual name. Group members Arman “Bebe Boohg Dixon and Semu” “Wa Peace” Walusimbi are an unlikely pairing brought together by focus, drive, and a love of all things music.
Like many of music’s great duos, Bebe and Wa Peace met in the schoolyard, in Upstate, N.Y. the foes-turned-friends (over a girl, of course) put aside their differences to form Universal Treat. The band of five eager grade school Hip-Hop heads evolved into a three-man high school group known as the “Hot Spittaz, consisting of Bebe, Wa Peace, and high school friend Chris Mendez. But tragedy struck the budding super group, when a car accident claimed Chris young life. Bebe and Wa Peace kept moving forward with the spirit of their friend in their hearts, making their hunger for success even stronger. So began the story of Physha P.
With such diverse talents, Physha P brings a brand of excellence that has set them apart from the average MC. Wa Peace takes great pride in his Ugandan ancestry. The self-described “Champion of the Underdog” founded RPM (Rhythm Poetry Music), an organization that unites and preserves African culture. RPM continues to spread awareness to a number of causes from the Jena Six to the genocide in Sudan, using music as beacon of hope. Bebe is not only a star on the mic he is also a star athlete. He led the Division 1 Men’s Track team at Sacred Heart University for all four years of his college career. In addition, he was the 2008 400m NCAA East regional champion, and participated in the 2008 Olympic trials for the 200m and 400m dash.
For now, Physha P is signed to independent record label Da Fam Entertainment, and they are taking New York by storm with their energetic live show. Their music is generating buzz on MySpace, as well as a growing legion of fans worldwide. Like their track “Goodbye” perfectly sums up: “This is all a feeling, playa.” Physha P has the potential to impact the Hip-Hop game forever, and to put their stamp on youth culture.
Lightning and thunder clash, but together, they create a powerful unexplainable force. Physha P is ready to make history as an undeniable musical force. In their own words, “they make the Hip-Hop music the Hip-Hop generation should have made.”
Where can we hear your stuff? All of our records are available at all digital stores including iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon.com, etc. so iTunes us! You can also check out our songs on myspace.com/PhyshaP and experience how we PUT ON A SHOW at youtube.com/DaFamTV
How did you get that name? We got our name from an inside joke between the two of us, its a very long story, you can check the whole thing out at www.myspace.com/PhyshaP …. But long story short, Physha P means… growth, innovation, and evoution while staying true to yourself and not being scared to Do What You Do, just like our New Single, ‘Do What You Do’ that you can catch on all digital stores, so iTunes us.
What has been your biggest accomplishment? BeBe Boohgz: My greatest accomplishment personally, was running in the Olympic Trials. But it doesn’t amount to living out my dream with my brother from another mother Wa Peace and taking Physha P to the top… We just got booked to perform on BET’s 106 & Park and our New Single “Do What You Do†just got added to Music Choice, its averaging 500 plays a week on internet radio, and its getting a lot of love in Japan, Canada, UK, and Germany.
Wa Peace: Thats what it is, I agree with my boy Bebe. But at the same time, I try not to look at what my biggest accomplishment was, more so I look to what the next big accomplishment will be. Yall can see alot of our latest aaccomplishments on myspace.com/physhap
What has been your most difficult challenge? I guess you can say that our biggest challenge was getting our families to actually believe in what we are doing. Music to us is a love, and in the beginning, as for most artists, it started out as a hobby and something we loved to do. So to our families, they just saw it as something we loved to do, but not something that we can make a living off on. Plus its hard for some people to understand that someone can make a living off of something that they love, which is the difference from having a job and having a career.
What makes you different? What Makes Physha P different, is that we make music that we feel, this generation should have been making. We don’t say that to knock any of the other artists out there because EVEYONE is talented, but PHYSHA P creates NEXT LEVEL HIP-HOP. We took the origin of Hip Hop, when everyone was having a good time, not scared to do what they do, (like our new single, ‘Do What You Do’, available at all digital stores) and put that into our music. Plus we PUT ON A SHOW, we’re not into going on stage, and grabbing our crotches, give you a 1 2 step, and the we are on our way. We have back up dancers, and we “gets busy†on stage because we feel like the people watching should get their money’s worth. If you want to check that out, go to www.youtube.com/DaFamTV, and see for yourself
What projects are you working on? Currently, we are rehearsing for our upcoming March 18th performance on BET’s 106 & Park. Also, we are promoting our current HIT single ‘Do What You Do’ (which just got added to Music Choice and is available in all digital stores) and preparing to release our next single ‘Shorty’s Got Me’. In addition, we are finishing up our mixtape: ‘Da Fam presents: Physha P… Welcome to Next Level Hip-Hop’
Where are you from originally? Bebe Boohgz: Well I’m from Beacon, NY and Wa Peace is from Poughkeepsie, NY.
Wa Peace: True, but I’m originally from Uganda, Africa.
How Long have you been making music? Since freshman year of High School in 2001, so about 8 years.
What artists inspire you? Bebe Boohgz: Artists like Eminem and Andre 3000. They both aren’t scared to Do What They Do, and be themselves. Whether you like Eminem or not, no matter what, you knew he was going to take you into his world. When playing an Eminem CD, from beginning to end, you got the sense that you just went somewhere, and that’s exactly what we strive to do when we make music. We want to give the listener the feeling that we were feeling when we write a song
Wa Peace: Artist who pushed the envelope and dared to be themselves on a record. Snoop Dogg, Dungeon Family. Bill Cosby.
How would you define your style of music? Physha P, our style of music is strictly NEXT LEVEL! Its something that cant just be talked about, it’s an EXPERIENCE. Talking about it, will only water it down, its something that one has to experience for one’s self to understand, but just know its NEXT LEVEL HIP-HOP, and you can see for yourselves at youtube.com/DaFamTV
What teams are you affiliated with? Da Fam Entertainment is the independent label we are signed to, but as is our modo… ‘Independently major baby!’
Who are some artists that you have worked with? : We have not had the chance to collaborate with many artists because we have been focused on developing our sound. However, we look forward to collaborating with artists who are pushing the envelope. But you can get a feel of the type of collaborations we like to do by checking out our upcoming mixtape ‘Welcome to Next Level Hip-Hop’
Who would you like to collab with? BeBe Boohgz: I Would love to collab with artists like Justin Timberlake, Timberland, and T.Pain. I don’t say that just because they are all huge names in the industry in their own right, but I feel like musically we would all connect on the same level, they seem to share the same vibe. Because making music is all about how well the vibe is, when the vibe is right, that’s when HITS and unprecedented things happen……PHYSHA P NEXT LEVEL HIP-HOP
Wa Peace: I just wanna collab wit Bebe right now, we got new songs that we created that would blow your wig off. But undoubtably I want to work with anyone who wants to do something thought provoking. So anybody from Kanye to President Obama.
Where do you see the future of music? Ummmm…….Physha P DUH!!!!! But on the real, I feel like that music of the future is going to take a drastic turn back to the basics. Not in the way of making simple minded music, but in the sense that artists are going to have to show the people they are REAL ARTISTS, and not just in it to make fast cash. It’s a recession, and people are going to want their monies worth, whether it’s from listening to music, or going to the movies
Where do you see yourself in 1 year? We see Physha P just doing what we do best, making music, and striving to take it to the NEXT LEVEL!
Describe yourself in one word: Dynamic
Any shout outs? Shout Out to the DJs all over the world, who have been supporting ‘Do What You Do’ and ‘Here I Am’ ft/Kelly Clarkson, and Shout out to the FANS!
