J. Hollywood aka SQ KID

“I moved to the O from the Bronx when I was 19 and met my cousin DJ June Buhg and Sonny Chulo for the first time at a family New Years party. After a few times of meeting up, he heard some of my music and put me on to my dude Stix, where I’ve been laying it down ever since. But the whole transition from being a young kid in New York just rapping in his room, using a my closet as a booth to moving to Orlando and be recording in a studio and having tracks on mix tapes and people recognize you for your talent was a big step for me at the time.”

Where can we hear your stuff?

I always keep my MYSPACE updated with new music. You can hear and download my mix tape Call 2 Greatness at www.Datpiff.com. Im also found at http://407hiphop.ning.com/profile/JHollywood.

How did you get that name?

My name is my lifestyle. They always said I was Hollywood bound, even growing up in the Bronx the kid always had that Star Quality!

What has been your most difficult challenge?

My biggest challenge is balancing my family life as a husband and father, and the grind where if you are not constantly in peoples faces your quick to fade from the scene.
What makes you different?: Im hood enough to go pop, a lot of these cats sound the same so I feel like the game needs something different. I got a wide range that I feel most people could appreciate. I could make tracks like Electro Girl, a uptempo pop style track for the white boys in the upscale clubs that only play pop and teckno and then come back with a song like Im In The Hood ft. Main Event West. or Be Ready ft. Federro , and still get respect in the spots where them gangster rome. And its still 100% me and its real. I lived that life like so many other artist out here but thats not everything I got to offer.
What projects are you working on?: I recently drop’t Call 2 Greatness, a mix tape with a album approach with all independent tracks. Now Im working on my second CD (THE Ocity HERO)..out early December. I also just put out a new youtube video (Talk Money) put together by Why Not Productions.

Where are you from originally?

Born and raised in The Bronx , in the city that never sleeps. 184th in Washington ave.
How Long have you been making music? : I came out of my moms singing, Ive always had a passion for music. All types and genres, but I got into hip hop late in my youth. My moms was real strick’t and dint allow me to hear music with curse words. So when I heard Onyx for the first time I had to hide it from mom dukes but I fell hard for the freedom of expression in this rap culture. I was 8 at the time, starting rapping  when I was 14 and now im 25 and still wish I could live in the booth.
What artists inspire you? : As far as Hip Hop Kanye West, Jay Z, Pac, Biggie, Pun, The younger LL Cool J, The Hell is Hot DMX, No Way Out Bad Boys, Jeezy, Wayne, Drake any body who dares to be different.

How would you define your style of music?

I dont stick to one kind of sound, so I would call my style evolutionary!
What teams are you affiliated with? : Star Quality Ent. theres no one else I rock with at this point in time. Teams come and go, and loyalty is hard to come by these days, so ill carry my own weight.

Who are some artists that you have worked with?

A few here and there, none worth mentioning.

Who would you like to collab with?  Any body thats about their grind and is open minded when they step in the booth.

Where do you see the future of music?

I see hip hop going back to where mc’s had to be lyrical to make an impression. And when that day comes a lot of the rappers gonna go broke.

Where do you see yourself in 1 year?

Making moves and on the Cover of Pure Cash Mag. with a big ass piece with the SQ logo.

Describe yourself in one word…..

Hollywood
