Who is J Terra and where are you from?
I am an undiscovered jewel, a rare commodity in Hip Hop… I am a true lyricist… I’m originally from L.E.S of Manhattan, N.Y, I now reside in Orlando.
Why the name J Terra?
People generally get a negative perception of what my name means, usually in reference to the word Terror. In actuality it because I am Extra”terrestrial”… not from this planet!!
Who are you affiliated with?
I am signed to Make Em Pay Entertainment,that’s home. I am managed by Mogul Management Group. As for my affiliations damn near everyone!! Tru Life,Ghetto Inmates,Animalistic Productions, Act Up Music, All Pro, Boyz vs Life, Orlando Mix Tape Kingz, P Villain, Pif Mobb, Fidel Cash Flow, and too many more to mention!!
What are some of your major accomplishments?
Other than creating music that is enjoyed by any audience that gets an opportunity to hear it… working alongside artists such as Jadakiss, DMX, Styles P, Young Dro and Tony Sunshine.
What inspires you and who are your influences?
My family, especially my children and my mother… they are the people that inspire me the most.
God.. Family… Honesty…Loyalty..Money and Hip Hop… this is how I live my life. Can’t forget the
Haters!!! Those that believe they are pose a challenge when in actuality they don’t!
As far as musically goes the list is endless but to mention a few, B.I.G, Tupac, Nas, Jay-Z, Big Pun, Big L, DMX, Snoop and Eminem.
What makes you different from other rappers?
Well I think differently, I believe my priorities are different, everyone wants to live comfortably of course but I do this because I truly love music, because I believe I was given this gift to be able to reconcile some of the suffering that we see daily in this world, I just have an abundance of compassion and respect for life. As far as my style goes I am very versatile, versatility is something you will hear a lot of on my album, all the while sounding just like Terra, no imitations just originality, music you can enjoy again, that makes sense, just check me out and you will be able to see for yourself how different I am.But the number one reason i do this is a sense of accomplishment,..to finally say “Look ma i did it , I told you and look ! did it”. To know i never settled in life i pushed ’til I was successful!
What challenges have you faced as an up and coming artist?
Politics mainly…. It’s not about your talent anymore, it’s about who you know… It’s a shame, it’s the reason why people are saying Hip Hop is dead, it’s really not, look back to where it started… In the streets!! Its alive and well here! And the occasional legal problem like the K.P.D harassing a nigga! (laughs).
What projects are you currently working on?
I just released my single “Wait, Wait, Wait”, it’s getting crazy responses, I will be releasing my follow up single “I’m the Shit” in January and my album “Terra Byte” will be dropping shortly after that. looking towards the summer. My management team is working on setting up some tours with some of the hottest artists in the game right now, so hopefully I will be in your city soon!
