Black N Mild

The two members of Black N Mild, Big Chief & Gee Reed, are from Indianapolis, IN. (NAPTOWN) and have a respect and love for music since they could walk. So only naturally in the year 2002 they would decide to create their own group, originally with 2 other people. Then after two years the group split up, leaving Chief and Gee Reed to start on their own. It was a struggle at first, but soon a fan base was formed. Then in 2006 when Myspace was blowing up, the two ventured out and signed up. They now have over 53,000 friends, and over 3.5 MILLION plays. Well above average for being solely independent.

Black N Mild, does not have any, agents, or publicists. They are the true definition of an underground artist. One of their biggest breaks to date occurred on May 12, 2007 while down on spring break, Black N Mild was presented an opportunity they would never forget. That opportunity was to open up for Lil Jon at the Boardwalk Beach Resort. Once onstage they got the crowd so hype that it caught the attention of fellow Panama residents, spring breakers and radio stations that they started generating a buzz. How did you get that name?
We used to be a four person group then 2 people left, leaving just 2 of us. I am half white/half Native American and the other member is black…. so only naturally we thought he’s black and I’m mild.plus we love smokin black n milds…

What has been your biggest accomplishment?
2 Years ago on spring break in Panama City we opened up for Lil Jon in front of a sold out crowd. That and breaking 3 million plays and views on myspace.
What has been your most difficult challenge? Getting an actual CD ready and processed.

What makes you different?
We attack a different demographic then the rest of the industry. We also do everything our selves…from promoting to producing, writing, and to engineering. EVERYTHING.

What projects are you working on?
We are always collabing and we have alot of collabs do out soon. Most of our collabs are with fellow underground artists. One to look out for is Rude Boy…that collab is gonna be sick.

Where are you from originally?
Chief aka Mild is originally and still living in Indianapolis..
Black was born in Chicago moved to Evansville then moved here to Indianapolis

How long have you been making music?
Since 2005.

What artists inspire you?
Ludacris, Jay-z, Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Rick Ross, and our local favorite Dzyne…

How would you define your style of music?
The lyrics of real hip hop with the beats of a mix of down south style and some new York mixed with some west coast flava…were from the Midwest…so were a mix of everything.

What teams are you affiliated with?
We are affiliated with our selves Black N Mild, 4th Quarter Ent, Itainment productions, Boy Early Productions.

Who are some artists that you have worked with?
Dzyne, Fatal, Braska who is signed to Ron Artest Label, and alot of other underground katz.

Who would you like to collab with? Anyone and everyone…

Where do you see the future of music?
Just like the economy I see it hitting rock bottom before it comes back up. So the next few years I see are going to be rough, but it will bounce back.

Where do you see yourself in 1 year?
Hopefully we will progress as artists and producers and still grinding hard…and hopefully by then some of this hard work will pay off.
