You might have heard BLOODRAW aka Mr. Florida on Young Jeezy’s Inspiration album, The USDA album, or on DJ Khaled’s album. Currently about to drop his solo album called “My Life The True Testimony,” we caught up with Bloodraw while he was doing his promo rounds here in Orlando at Cleo’s nightclub.
Where did the name Bloodraw come from? The whole slang in Florida is different than elsewhere. It’s a slang that stands for anything that’s authentic and official. I really got the name in Prison. The older cats would hear me get down and say – that jit’s bloodraw! Blood symbolizes life and the raw and uncut – that’s pretty much me.
How long you been in the game for? I been rapping since probably like 98/ 99- I got out of prison and I was still playing both sides of the fence. Around 2000/ 2001 – that’s when I really buckled down and said this is what I was going to do?
How did you hook up with Young Jeezy? We were on the same ticket doing a show in Alabama. He and King, the co – owner of CTE couldn’t believe the crowds response to me. During that time a lot of people were trying to sign me. CTE flew me to Atlanta and we spoke. They told me what I wanted t hear and it was a done deal.
What has been your most memorable performance? Greenville, SC – on New Year’s Eve – there was almost 5000 people in the club that all came to see Blood Raw. They were reciting every song, it was a great feeling!
Who would you attribute your solo artist success to? I came up off of Scarface , 2pac, Big, 8 Ball and MJG, Trick – Dudes like that. I respect them and their music to the fullest!
What can we expect from your solo project? You can expect a cat who came from where you came from. A cat who been through everything you been through, sold what you sold, done what you done. I’m being put in a position to express to the world that it’s ok man, we all came from the hood but there’s other ways and outlets for us to be successful. You can become successful and be rich without a high school diploma or college degree, you can still be rich. A kid from the hood can do anything he puts his mind to.
How do you handle features? I feel like I’m in a position to help other cats out. If a cat is really on their grind, I try to do everything I can to help out. I was in that position before and there wasn’t a lot of cats that helped me out. I can’t be like the next man that don’t want to lend a hand. I do what I can and my blessings are going to come.
Any misconceptions about Bloodraw? I don’t think there is any unless if you a hater or you owe me some money.
Final Words CTE, USDA, DEF JAM. Bloodraw – Mr . Florida!!!1 I got us……..
