‘I am not afraid…I was born to do this.’ Joan of Arc.
These same words can be heard uttered from the lips of one of the music industries most promising prospects. Lil Wes has been rapping since the age of 8 and has a versatile style that allows him to command any track he is on. His ability to take over any track has propelled collaborating artists to soar to even greater heights. At the age of 12 he began to participate in school as well as city-wide talent shows where he won most of them with his lyrical ability and his dominating control of the crowd.
Through the distribution of mixtapes as well as many collaborations throughout Central Florida, as well as Southern Florida, Lil Wes has grown quite a following as the 17 year old prodigy. His music can be heard playing on many car stereo systems as well as a myriad of college radio stations as well as underground radio stations.
He has a broad fan base ranging from pre teens to the elderly. The reason for this is partly due to his extensive vocabulary. He has the ability to utilize words not commonly used in everyday language in a manner that allows school children to comprehend. He also brings out the region of his personality that each song requires him to exhibit. On each and every track that he is a part of, he does not simply â?orapâ? on the track, he becomes the track. His use of metaphors, similes and imagery paint a vivid picture of every word exiting his mouth. Some of his inspirations include: Biggie, 2pac, Mase, Jay Z, Nas, Kanye West, Fabolous, Common, TI and Lil Wayne.
In November of 2008 the emcee attended the Florida Music Conference held in Orlando FL. At the conference he was given great advice, met with many local DJâ?Ts and was put in the running for a record contract.
Approximately one month later Lil Wes uploaded a video onto youtube which found its way to worldstarhiphop.com, thisis50.com and various other websites. This video caught the attention of Local Radio show host Ricky Padilla aka Mr. 6 to 10 of 102 Jamz Orlando. Padilla was impressed by his talent as well as his drive. After years of being behind the scenes of many power plays in the music industry, and not receiving any credit, he decided that this was the artist that he would hand pick to cash in all his chips on and catapult to stardom.
Lil Wes is currently working on his upcoming mixtape containing production and features from some of the industries most well known artists and producers. He is currently unsigned and looking for the opportunity to play a bigger role in the music industry.
