Tips Of the Trade for Independent Artists

Now on another note, there’s a few things that new independent artists need to really realize. You can’t just make a CD and expect it to move on its own. With that said – I would like to share some knowledge that I’ve learned throughout the years. If you expect to be taken seriously you have to first take yourself seriously.

Here are some things that you should look up and will be key to your career: U.S. Copyright office, BDS, Mediabase, Soundscan, UPC code, ISRC code, your own publishing through Ascap or BMI. All the fore-mentioned should not be overlooked. Of course you need a good entertainment lawyer. I recommend John Guidry (407.423.1117) he is local in Orlando and even own his own studio. One you get the basics taken care of, you need packaging, designs, some sort of distribution. Just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean it’s good, you get what you pay for. Be sure to have a great mix and don’t forget to master your final project BEFORE you duplicate. Four of the best mixers, producer, and master makers that I have worked with are; Aaron Accetta, www.accetta.com, S.T.I.X. 407 407.973. 2711, and        K- Lion, myspace.com/klion1 and DJ Slique, myspace.com/djslique.  Always remember – you will only be taken as serious as you take yourself.
